I am so excited to share this sweet rainbow unicorn cake with you. This simple cut-out cake reminds me of my childhood birthday cakes. This recipe creatively uses box cake mix, pudding, and whipped topping to make a swirling, colorful unicorn cake.

Frosting

Since so much of the time is for cooling and freezing, you can easily prepare some parts in advance. To make the unicorn's ears, you will need white and pink modeling chocolate and two teardrop cookie cutters. Use one that's about 2 ¼ inches long and another that's about an inch long. You'll also find instructions for coloring the modeling chocolate. You'll need white, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and black modeling chocolate to decorate your unicorn. This unicorn cake idea looks really sweet and girly.

Leave the remaining white frosting in your bowl to frost the cake layers. I am a big fan of bright colors and sparkles, and knew this was a trend I wanted to jump on. I decided to make colorful cake layers with a fluffy vanilla buttercream, and decorate it with a swirled pink horn, bright buttercream accents, and some edible gold dust! You can see the full tutorial on my YouTube channel.

Decorate the Cake

8) Let cakes cool in the pans for at least 30 minutes. Then, transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely. The Hostess inspired cake is a perfect way to celebrate a birthday. They do, of course, also make celebration cakes for adults. As with their children’s cakes, Roobina’s designers work with you one-on-one to create the custom cake of your dreams.

This easy to follow tutorial lays it out step by step. Celebrate the neon lovers in your circle with this eye-popping hot pink creation. A mane of swirling neon colors and iridescent accents are sure to impress all your unicorn party guests. Once they’re done and cooled to room temperature, frost with a buttercream of your choice. If you want a truly simple unicorn cake, start by baking our basic recipe below. Our ultimate rainbow unicorn cake is modern and a bit different from those you’ve likely already seen everywhere.

Layered Unicorn Cake with Buttercream Frosting

Unicorn cakes have been EVERYWHERE in the last year, and I just couldn’t let this trend jump the shark completely before I tried making my own. Once the cake is cooled, I trimmed some of the top off so that the cake would lay flat on the sheet pan. I find so much joy in my kitchen and hope to inspire you to do the same!

Next, carefully frost a layer of pale pink buttercream to about the middle of the cake, smoothing with the scraper. Follow this with a smaller layer of pale yellow buttercream just below, then a layer of pastel blue, and a tiny layer of pale green. Next, frost the top of the cake using white buttercream frosting.

Since it was a 2 tier cake, the large eyes filled up the front of the cake nicely. Make a double-height cake and majestic horn for your unicorn, and you could recreate this rainbow-maned cake. While this one is available as part of Craftsy kit, you can take inspiration from the finished product to make your unicorn cake. Cake Style made this cake for her daughter’s birthday, and has done a full video tutorial to show you how to recreate it at home. While this is a pretty easy unicorn cake and none of the steps are particularly complicated or difficult, making it can be a full-day process.

Rainbow unicorn cakes have been popular for nearly a decade now. This unicorn cake is magical, festive, and simple to make. Put 3/4 cup of frosting into four different bowls, and coloring them to match the cake layers (blue, pink, yellow, purple).

About Graybar

The family initially said they lost her “to the disease of mental illness.” Then, weeks later, Ashley Judd confirmed during a “Good Morning America” interview that her mother had used a gun to end her life. “I’m here because I am my beloved mother’s daughter and on the day she died, which will be the two-year anniversary in one week, the disease of mental illness was lying to her and with great terror convinced her that it would never get better,” Judd continued. Graybar, a Fortune 500 company, specializes in supply chain management services, and is a leading North American distributor of high quality components, equipment, and materials. The 56-year-old also opened up about her own mental health struggles and successes. She experienced childhood depression after being molested at age 7, she said, and, because of that she knew well the feeling of “not wanting to be here.” However, she started treatment in for her unresolved childhood grief and sexual trauma. Judd said she relied on her “chosen family” to process her mother’s death, as Aloe Blacc did with his own after Avicii’s suicide.

5e, RFdiffusion designs are nearly indistinguishable from AF2 predictions of the structures adopted by the designed sequences, and many show little resemblance to previously solved protein structures (Extended Data Fig. 5d and Supplementary Table 1). Several of the oligomeric topologies are not seen in the PDB, including two-layer beta barrels (Fig. 3a, C10 symmetry) and complex mixed alpha/beta topologies (Fig. 3a, C8 symmetry; closest TM align in PDB 6BRP, 0.47, and PDB 6BRO, 0.43, respectively). A transmembrane helix-helix backbone pair with the desired geometry is selected from a database of membrane-protein structures (left). The original amino acid side-chains are discarded, and the helical backbones are extended to span the full length of a membrane.

A set of heterodimers that have orthogonal binding specificities were designed using parametric backbone generation and HBNet (120). Self-assembled nanocages with higher-order symmetries were designed by symmetric docking followed by Monte Carlo interface sequence design (140, 141). Fusing the designed cages to membrane binding and endosomal sorting recruiting peptides induced the formation of nanocage-containing extracellular vesicles (142). The strategy of combining symmetric arrangement of protein chains and Monte Carlo interface sequence design was also successfully applied to design protein filaments (8), alpha amyloid-like structures (143), or two-dimensional materials (7, 9). Although difficult, interaction interfaces can also be designed without native motifs. After experimental optimization, the most potent design had a 100-pM affinity to spike.

Bioactive PeptidesChemically synthesized molecules with predictable structures and functions. As the field of protein design continues to evolve, the collaboration between these disciplines will remain crucial in realizing its full potential. Your body contains trillions of individual protein molecules that together perform the vital functions of life. In total, your DNA contains the blueprints for crafting about 20,000 unique types of protein – a collection known as a genome. One major aim is to not only discover new therapeutic proteins but to shorten their clinical development through “quality by design,” said Stuart.

An alternative approach to physics-based energy terms is using statistics from known structures to derive potential functions (114). The first version of the scoring function in the Rosetta program for structural modeling, and the design was developed for protein structure prediction (115) and was a statistical potential function derived from structures in the PDB (16, 116) using Bayesian statistics (35). To adapt Rosetta for the protein design, all-atom detail and physics-based terms were incorporated (33, 38), which in turn led to considerable advances in both protein structure prediction and protein design (82, 117).

“If you can’t show that, then it doesn’t make sense.” Accordingly, most companies pursuing computational design are still focused on tuning protein function rather than overhauling it, shortening the leap between prediction and performance. Advances in design of new protein functions.A, a apixaban (yellow) binder designed by the Convergent Motifs for Binding Sites (COMBS) algorithm (25). B, A de novo protein (green) binds the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike protein (gray) (4).

protein design

Despite this progress, a general deep-learning framework for protein design that enables solution of a wide range of design challenges, including de novo binder design and design of higher-order symmetric architectures, has yet to be described. Diffusion models10,11 have had considerable success in image and language generative modelling but limited success when applied to protein modelling, probably due to the complexity of protein backbone geometry and sequence–structure relationships. We demonstrate the power and generality of the method, called RoseTTAFold diffusion (RFdiffusion), by experimentally characterizing the structures and functions of hundreds of designed symmetric assemblies, metal-binding proteins and protein binders. The accuracy of RFdiffusion is confirmed by the cryogenic electron microscopy structure of a designed binder in complex with influenza haemagglutinin that is nearly identical to the design model.

Urry and colleagues later designed elastin-like fibrous peptides based on rules on sequence composition. Following the development of these computational tools, great success has been achieved over the last 30 years in protein design. There is great hope that the design of new proteins, small and large, will have uses in biomedicine and bioengineering.

To generate a new protein backbone, we first initialize random residue frames and RFdiffusion makes a denoised prediction. Each residue frame is updated by taking a step in the direction of this prediction with some noise added to generate the input to the next step. The nature of the noise added and the size of this reverse step is chosen such that the denoising process matches the distribution of the noising process (Supplementary Methods and Extended Data Fig. 2a). RFdiffusion initially seeks to match the full breadth of possible protein structures compatible with the purely random frames with which it is initialized, and hence the denoised structures do not initially seem protein-like (Fig. 1c, left).

Scoring functions in the computational protein design aim to distinguish designs with desired properties from those not adopting the intended structures and functions, typically by identifying low-energy sequence–structure combinations. Early protein energy functions (110) used harmonic terms for bond energies and a Lennard–Jones potential for van der Waals interactions. Modern physics–based energy functions (111, 112, 113) account for additional energy terms such as electrostatics and desolvation.

Illumination with blue light triggers Jα unfolding, and frees the peptide to interact with ePDZ. By fusing ePDZ to a transmembrane protein, it was possible to induce protein localization to the plasma membrane by illuminating cells with blue light. A number of peptide mutations were identified during the design process that varied in affinity for ePDZ. When combined with the ePDZ variants that bind peptides with different strengths, the authors were able to create a series of interaction pairs that covered a wide spectrum of binding affinities. In signaling networks a single protein may interact with multiple targets, and teasing apart the different activities can be a challenge. The simplest approach is to treat the binding and activating domains of a signaling protein as independent modules that can be mixed and matched.

“In our internal testing, this molecule is quite resistant to all of the variants that we’ve seen thus far,” says cofounder and CTO Gevorg Grigoryan, adding that Generate aims to file Investigational New Drug paperwork to clear the way for clinical testing in the second quarter of this year. More ambitious programs are on the horizon, although it remains to be seen how soon the leap to de novo design — in which new proteins are built entirely from scratch — will come. The breadth and complexity of problems solvable with RFdiffusion and the robustness and accuracy of the solutions far exceeds what has been achieved previously.

In recent years, machine learning has proven to be a powerful way to model and design proteins on the computer. Rather than having human experts try to encode their knowledge into software, this strategy allows computers to train themselves to detect patterns in proteins. Recognizing the impact of this innovation, the journal Science dubbed the application of machine learning to protein science their 2021 Breakthrough of the Year.

D, machine learning methods predict the probability of sequences given a structure (102) or the probability of structures given a sequence (109). The predicted probabilities can be used as scores for the compatibility between sequences and structures. The computational de novo protein design is increasingly applied to address a number of key challenges in biomedicine and biological engineering. Successes in expanding applications are driven by advances in design principles and methods over several decades. Here, we review recent innovations in major aspects of the de novo protein design and include how these advances were informed by principles of protein architecture and interactions derived from the wealth of structures in the Protein Data Bank. We describe developments in de novo generation of designable backbone structures, optimization of sequences, design scoring functions, and the design of the function.

White House Plumbers Season 1 Official Website for the HBO Series

white house plumbers episodes

Howard tries to assure Liddy and probably himself by claiming that the Cubans will not break under pressure, not realizing that the officers have found the envelope he gave Bernard “Macho” Barker to put into the hotel mailbox. Addressed to the Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, Maryland, it contains membership fees. On the fateful night of June 17, 1972, Virgilio Gonzalez, Bernard Barker, James McCord, Eugenio Martínez, and Frank Sturgis, break into the DNC headquarters at the Watergate complex. Security guard Frank Wills notices tape covering the latches of some of the doors and calls the authorities. Sgt. Paul W. Leeper, Officer John B. Barrett, and Officer Carl M. Shoffler, dressed in what can be categorized as hippie clothing, arrive at the scene and arrest the burglars. After the third attempt effectively ended in failure and the mockery they subsequently received from Dean and Magruder, Howard decides to go on a trip to Paris with his family.

'The Office' Sets First Castmembers for Potential Follow-Up Series

Frank Wills' role in the Watergate break-in is pretty accurately portrayed in the show (aside from him meeting Hunt during that first, unconfirmed break-in). On the blog Rediscovering Black History from the National Archives, it says that while on his rounds on June 17, 1972, Wills spotted the tape on a door and removed it. However, when he returned later he saw that tape had been reapplied. This caused him to call the authorities, who then caught and arrested everyone. Other reports, including from the Nixon Library and History.com, mention that there were at least two break-ins — the planting of the failed bugs and the attempt to fix them was when they all were caught. On the second attempt, the entire team goes in together until James W. McCord Jr. (Toby Huss) separates from them and runs into two security guards.

White House Plumber G. Gordon Liddy’s Wild Career After the Watergate Scandal

And that’s what the rest of the episode is devoted to explaining — how Mitchell could grow desperate enough to take these men up on their bonkers scheming. And how Liddy and Hunt climb their way back from the basement of Mitchell’s estimation to his good graces. This is where Kathleen Turner finally comes into play. We learn — not via chyron, but by its cousin, archival news coverage — that Turner is Dita Beard, a lobbyist for a company called International Telephone and Telegraph. In the episode’s cold open, she was typing up a memo about the time Mitchell promised ITT a favorable outcome in an antitrust lawsuit in exchange for a humongous donation to the RNC convention in San Diego. Now, the memo’s been leaked to newspaper columnist Jack Anderson.

Lifestyle

That’s because this has always been about more than an electoral victory for Hunt and Liddy. Gordon has been picked on all his life, he tells us over and over and over again. Now, he does daily calisthenics (Justin Theroux is very good at push-ups) and exists so close to the president of the United States of America that he irregularly interacts with a guy who regularly interacts with him.

You’ll remember the second attempt — first attempt No. 2, really — from the White House Plumbers series premiere. The ragtag crew of political criminals makes it up to the DNC offices, but Villo doesn’t have the tools necessary to pick the lock. They’re on the Watergate premises just long enough for McCord to get ID’d by a security guard he used to work with.

white house plumbers episodes

Magruder earlier spoke to him and revealed that Nixon needed the photographs of everything that O’Brien had in his bottom left drawer. Even though Liddy has grown as disillusioned with his bosses as Howard, he is still staunchly loyal to Nixon. He tells Howard that if he quits now, he will prove his detractors in the CIA right, and that gets through to the other man. Then suddenly, the fifth episode decides we’re supposed to take everything seriously.

Liddy runs upstairs, grabs a gun, and jumps from a second-floor window to surprise and terrorize the egg assailant while Hitler barks. Despite the unflinching physicality Theroux brings to his role, this is not funny. Even if it really happened, it feels stupid to watch it.

After failing upward, the unlikely pair lands on the Committee to Re-Elect the President, plotting several unbelievable covert ops – including bugging the Democratic National Committee offices at the Watergate complex. Proving that fact is sometimes stranger than fiction, White House Plumbers sheds light on the lesser-known series of events that led to one of the greatest political scandals in American history. Liddy’s notorious plot to spy on the Democratic National Committee, which led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation in August 1974, is satirically featured in the new HBO limited series White House Plumbers. Justin Theroux stars as Liddy, and Woody Harrelson plays his co-conspirator E. The real life Liddy and Hunt were part of a special White House unit, informally known as the Plumbers, whose job was to prevent or respond to leaks of classified information. There were two operations that night, with one team staying to break into the DNC and another attempting to break into Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern's campaign offices.

And from that point forward, the Hunts are forbidden from answering the telephone. The soundtrack of their lives will be the interminable shrill of the family landline. This email will be used to sign into all New York sites.

It turns out that Howard’s been sending out notes on White House stationery, including to the flirty flight attendant who he met on the way home from the Ellsberg break-in. I think the threat is that if Howard writes the book on Watergate, the Ellsberg scandal will break, too? I’m not entirely sure, but seeing as the book seems like a TERRIBLE idea, I guess it’s just as well!

This five-part limited series imagines the behind-the-scenes story of how Nixon’s political saboteurs, E. Gordon Liddy (Justin Theroux), accidentally toppled the presidency they were zealously trying to protect… and their families along with it. Chronicling actions on the ground, this satirical drama begins in 1971 when the White House hires Hunt and Liddy, former CIA and FBI, respectively, to investigate the Pentagon Papers leak.

For McCord, it turns out, politics was always a job. For Howard, who’s since been fired by the PR firm, too, it remains a religion. In the end, the Cubans completely trash the doctor’s office but still don’t find the file. Not that it matters — the LAPD improbably attributes the crime to drug-seeking junkies, and Nixon’s people approve of Gordon and Howard’s tactics even if they didn’t get results this time around.

Design Conversation: Helena Hernmarck and Elizabeth Whelan

The Parsons School of Design, in partnership with Cooper Hewitt, offers an accredited Master’s Program in the History of Design and Curatorial Studies located on the museum campus. The program prepares the next generation of design curators, conservators, scholars, educators, and administrators; all of whom receive hands-on experience with masterworks of design and are fully integrated into the museum’s departments. Shaping the National Design Collection, we invite Cooper Hewitt members to join us for an evening with award-winning designers and weavers Helena Hernmarck and Elizabeth Whelan. In conversation with Acting Director of Curatorial, Matilda McQuaid, Hernmarck and Whelan will discuss the innovations and inspirations which define their practices. After the death of her husband Alvin Lustig, Elaine Lustig Cohen (American, 1927–2016) took the reins of his graphic design business. Retaining his clients, she quickly learned how to run the business and became a successful graphic designer herself.

Accomplished weaver Dorothy Wright Liebes (American, 1897–1972) is often credited as a vital part of the California Modernist movement, and was once one of the most well-known designers in the United States. Heres What Happened to G Gordon Liddy After Watergate

white house plumbers episodes

After the arrests at the Watergate, Dorothy emerges as a hero to Howie’s disgraced band of political criminals, securing payouts from Nixon’s dubious cronies and flying across the country to collect and distribute them. By the end of the episode, though, the mother of four is gone — the death of the series’ most thoughtful character reduced to a jump scare. HBO's NEWEST limited series is a reimagining of the Watergate scandal from the perspective of two of Nixon's most trusted men. Starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux, the show follows E. The two men were part of the White House Special Investigation Unit (nicknamed the White House Plumbers, among other names) and tasked with either stopping or managing leaks of classified information. While at first glance that may all seem above board, in practice the job looked more like breaking into people's offices and rooting through their papers.

Who is Frank Wills?

These names correspond to the faces of the men on which our story turns. Remember this pivotal date, the date history was made. G. Gordon Liddy served 52 months in prison for his role in organizing the break-ins at the center of the Watergate scandal in May and June 1972. But instead of dooming the former FBI agent turned political operative to obscurity, the misconduct only seemed to boost Liddy’s star power in the decades that followed. Naftali said the second attempt had them bug an empty conference room; the show had them bug a secretary while the bugs on more prominent figures were not working properly.

White House Plumber G. Gordon Liddy’s Wild Career After the Watergate Scandal

Unfortunately, two of Hunt’s kids — Lisa and Howard Saint John — are at the club that same night. I guess this is where rich kids of the Washington metro area smoked weed before there were shopping malls. Honestly, Turner plays Dita with such dark humor that it feels like Howard probably didn’t even need to bother with the Christmas bonus bribe. She would have lied to Ted Kennedy’s limo-liberal face in exchange for the carton of cigs Hunt smuggles into the hospital for her. Hell, she probably would have done it for the sheer thrill. But it’s in these scenes that we see a glimmer of the CIA agent that Howard may have been once upon a time.

The real G. Gordon Liddy and E. Howard Hunt

white house plumbers episodes

The Bozo Brothers are moved off the White House roster and onto the payroll of CREEP. Now, Gordon and Howard are in the crucial business of keeping Nixon president by whatever means necessary. “You impressed the right people,” Dean tells the boys just after Nixon fires Krogh for being unable to stomach the darker electoral arts. He gives them a million dollars to put toward espionage and sabotage, electronic surveillance, and better walkie-talkies. It’s so much money that the Plumbers absolutely should have sprung for the full suite of lock-picking tools, but like the show’s cold open itself, I’m jumping too far ahead. Judy Greer as Fran Liddy Judy plays Fran, Liddy’s unflappable wife who has misplaced faith in her husband’s intelligence and abilities.

He would parlay his role in the scandal for a brief bit of fame, including starring as himself in the Oscar-winning movie All the President's Men about the Watergate scandal. Unfortunately, his brief time in the sun would not last, and he would struggle for the rest of his life before dying at the age of 52 in 2000. Britannica, meanwhile, notes there was a failed attempt to break into McGovern's campaign headquarters, but there is no reference that this was paired with a fourth attempt to get into the DNC offices at the Watergate. But how much of what was shown in the episode was fact and how much was fiction? We're breaking that down right here, including the number of times the burglars got into the Watergate and the role that Frank Wills played in their arrest.

Casting

The first episode of White House Plumbers premieres Monday, May 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, with four additional episodes airing weekly on Monday nights. Liddy acted in 46 episodes of 18 Wheels of Justice from 2000 to 2001 and also had guest roles in the TV shows Airwolf, The Highwayman, and an adaptation of the Encyclopedia Brown book series. He had 20 acting credits according to IMDb and often played nefarious television characters, such as Captain William Maynard on Miami Vice in 1985 and 1986 and Carl Strickland in a 1988 episode of MacGyver.

For Mitchell, it’s a felony bribery scandal big enough to sink another man’s presidency; for Hunt and Liddy, it’s a golden opportunity if they can figure out how to seize it without making a bigger, blundering mess of things. For his part, Howard continues to emerge as the “brains” of the operation. He thinks of every little detail, yet he thinks of nothing. He rents a banquet hall in the Watergate basement to justify the Plumbers’ presence in the building, but he doesn’t bother to recon the lock they’ll need to pick in order to leave said banquet hall. He recruits the right guys, but they never have the right tools.

This isn’t about America or even about Nixon; it’s about jostling for position in the upcoming feeding frenzy. It’s about heedlessly chasing former glory (real or imagined) because if you can’t be Oval Office adjacent, you may as well be in a square prison cell. A key figure in the arrest of the Watergate burglars was Frank Wills, a security guard at the hotel/office building complex. In the show, we see Wills (Eddie K. Robinson) have his first interaction with Hunt and the others during their first break-in attempt, but he thinks nothing of it. However, as they continue to try their subsequent break-ins, Wills is often noticing odd things that raise his alarm. It all culminates when he notices a door to the building has had tape put over the latch in order to prevent it from locking.

But while Hunt’s beginning to doubt Nixon’s loyalty, G. Dean he’s willing to be assassinated for the president — an event that seems unlikely to deflect suspicion from the campaign, but it’s the thought that counts. The first night Gordon and Howard and their band of Cuban brothers attempt a Watergate break-in, the posse divides and doesn’t conquer. After a kickoff dinner, one team is dispatched to George McGovern’s presidential-campaign office, where Gordon’s “man on the inside” gets cold feet and denies them entry and nary a remote listening device is planted. Why did these men need to visit the Watergate at all on the evening in question? After the scandal became public, Wills left his job at the Watergate; the blog says that he did not feel he was given proper compensation (raise and a promotion) for helping to discover the burglary.

Gordon Liddy are tasked with investigating the Pentagon Papers leak, gathering a team of Cubans -- all Bay of Pigs veterans -- to infiltrate whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist's office. Lisa and Howard Saint John embarrass their parents, first by greeting the Liddys high as kites and then by making a larger, louder scene. The emotionally fragile Lisa is playing indignant (and high) white savior to a Black country-club employee who says he didn’t even hear whatever racist attack from another club member that Lisa is protesting on his behalf. But just when it seems Lisa is persuaded to go home, Howard reignites the scene by forcing her to apologize, which of course ends in her calling the guy a “pig” even more vociferously than she started. Gordon Liddy post-Watergate scandal, including some of his wild endeavors.

The men are, under no circumstances, to murder any commies. But they are given the go-ahead to bug DNC headquarters and $250,000 to put toward the nefarious scheme. In Scrabble parlance, he’s finally scored his bingo. He shared these and other candid anecdotes in one of his first major projects out of prison, a 1980 autobiography titled Will that sold more than one million copies and was adapted into a 1982 made-for-TV movie starring Robert Conrad.

When he isn’t writing dreadful spy novels under a pseudonym, Hunt is stuck in a dead-end PR job after getting forced out of the CIA. He goes home to wife Dorothy (Lena Headey), who has a more decorated espionage past of her own, and an assortment of screwed up kids. An FBI wash-out, Liddy has a reputation for eccentricity and an unnervingly chipper, well-behaved family fronted by wife Fran (Judy Greer). The two men are brought together by Bud Krogh (Rich Sommer) and tasked with investigating the leak of the Pentagon Papers. Their conversation is set to somber music, but it’s not actually sad.

And, of course, the White House Plumbers' most famous act was the Watergate Scandal. In another scene from Papa Knows Best, Howard knocks down the bathroom door after Lisa locks herself inside, a speedy alternative to coaxing her out with love or even bothering to comfort his worried wife. And it’s not just that Howard is a short-tempered papa when he’s down. He’s a shitty dad in his third at-bat, right after his big win with Dita Beard. There are bad behaviors to correct and those to ignore. Sometimes you just have to let someone escape a tricky situation without a public apology.

In a story glutted with broad caricatures, Hunt and Liddy are maybe the broadest and perhaps the least inherently sympathetic. “The Writer’s Wife” picks up six months earlier, in the closing moments of episode three. Jim McCord and the Cubans have just been arrested by hippie cops, whose unexpected hippie attire I assumed would be explained this week but appears to have been forgotten.

The overall effect of the unnecessary tagging — despite the ASMR satisfaction of the typewriter punches that accompany it — is chaos. Surely one of the hallmarks of a successful TV show is the ability to convey a sense of time and place and character without me having to jot it all down in my Ghostwriter notebook. For the previous break-in attempts, McCord posed as a Watergate delivery man during the day and taped open a back door for his team of crackpot intelligencers to utilize later. But on this day, a security guard called Frank Wills — who, fun fact, plays himself in All the President’s Men — noticed and removed the masking tape.

10 of the Most Expensive Homes in the World

most expensive house

Seven The Pinnacle is easily one of the best winter holiday homes you’ll find anywhere in the world. A property of the owners of Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana, this is the largest house in the exclusive ski and golf resort. Yellowstone Club is one of the top destinations for the rich and famous during the winter ski season. Beverly Hills, California is one of the most famous places in the world. This city is home to the biggest celebrities, most expensive luxury hotels, and the world-famous Rodeo Drive shopping district. After King Leopold II, the estate was owned by the Marnier Lapostolle family up until the family’s company was sold to Italian beverage company Campari in 2016.

Tarpon Isle, Palm Beach, Florida — $187.5 Million

most expensive house

It is private and secluded, yet accessible to transportation to Manhattan. The 12,000-square-foot house features luxury details of all sorts, from intricate moldings and marble fireplaces to hand-carved mantles, elegant crystal chandeliers, and ornate 24-gold carat bath fixtures. Before the Chartwell Estate was listed, this 38,000-square-foot house in exclusive Bel Air, California was the priciest home on the market. The home features 21 bedrooms and 42 bathrooms and boasts panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, downtown Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Mountains. Located in the Bel-Air neighborhood of Los Angeles, “The One” is on the market with a $295 million asking price.

Clase Azul Master Artisans

There's also a tennis court and tennis house, pool, spa, and pool house. The mansion was built in 2009 and has features seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and two half baths. Construction of the grand house took five years and part of the reason was all the imported decor.

The One in Bel Air, California

After a five-year renovation project, the house was put up for sale with an asking price of €350 million. Not finding a buyer until Cardin’s death in December 2020, it has been suggested the estate be turned into an art expo venue in honor of the late designer’s patronage of the arts. This expensive home in Highgate, London, is a protected site listed as Grade II by Historic England. While it’s smaller than the other properties on our list at only five acres, its long history of prominent owners gives it enough novelty. After Murdock acquired the property from the Hilton estate, he sold off all the home’s original furniture. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, and the Winnicks felt it was worthwhile to track down a number of the items to return them to their rightful place at Casa Encantada.

Undoubtedly, the energy, work, and resources invested in a house determine its price. And these colossal residences are the ultimate goals of human-made architecture and possess all the characteristics of national treasures. Famous designer Pierre Cardin recruited Hungarian architect Antti Lovag to draw up the palace, transforming it into an astounding architectural fantasy. However, Cardin never resided in the mansion but rather in the surrounding area, and the property was mostly used for events.

Price/Stick: $600

If you’re a bachelor, and you’ve got the cash, snap this one up when it next comes back on the market, as it’s one of the most impressive houses we’ve ever seen. To power the mansion, it requires a gigantic amount of electricity, fortunately, the house comes with its very own power plant located on-site. You can’t have a list of the most expensive houses in the world and not have one located in New York City. Due to the sheer size of the estate, 23-acres to be exact, the property holds more than one dwelling.

Cohiba Talisman Edicion Limitada 2017

And steps away is the wine cellar with racks for 10,000 bottles, plus a cigar lounge. When you’ve found “The One” with 100,000 square feet, 20 bedrooms, and 30 bathrooms, you might want to show it to everyone else in your life. Once estimated at $500 million, this Bel-Air gem is currently being sold for $295 million and will remain on the open market until it is auctioned.

The exceptional location gives it 2,500 feet of water frontage — 1,200 feet along the beach and 1,300 feet along Lake Worth. The owners created a multitude of specialized rooms in the Los Angeles house, such as a flower-cutting room, a humidity-controlled silver storage room, a barbershop and multiple gift-wrapping rooms. Of course, a most expensive home needs more that a once-a-week housekeeper. In fact, the property has seven full-time staff to keep it operating at peak performance and comfort. It’s likely that if you can afford this home, paying for 7 full-time employees to run it won’t be a financial burden.

most expensive house

The main house has 10 bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, two half bathrooms, and four fireplaces. The stable is said to have a Guastavino tile ceiling like the one in the concourses at Grand Central Station in New York City. If you’ve ever visited a royal castle or mansion and subsequently wanted to buy one of your own, well, now’s your chance. This massive, 63,130-square-foot home was inspired by Baroque and Rococo architecture, and it shows.

It’s filled with state-of-the-art technology, like tiny pins attached to each guest’s lapel so they can control lighting, music, and temperature. A company controlled by software billionaire and Oracle founder Larry Ellison bought the ocean-to-lake estate at 2000 S. Ocean Blvd. in Manalapan from a trust controlled by Netscape co-founder Jim Clark.

The incredible aroma, as well as the taste of the cigar, will be something that you will be so impressed with that you will never forget. The cigars were buried deep below the surface in sealed clay pots, and discovered by an archeologist team from Tampa University. In 2012, a large crate of Mayan cigars, expected to be more than 600 years old, was discovered in Guatemala.

Positively massive, this 24,500 square-foot mansion sits on the shores of Spirit Lake, Iowa. At $9,900,000, the price brings with it an impressive array of amenities. A sweeping driveway leads to the main house, which has a spectacular entry hall with 18-foot ceiling. A majestic reception hall, formal dining room and living spaces dominate the main floor. For those who like wide-open spaces, Colorado’s West Creek Ranch may be the best choice. Listed with an asking price of $149 million, the 6,900-acre property in Gateway, Mesa County sits near the Utah border.

As well as the series of round rooms, this luxury mansion is also home to a sprawling, open-air 500-seat amphitheater on the hillside grounds, with views overlooking the Mediterranean sea. This three-lot property stretches across some of the most prime real estate in the country.

The home itself is surrounded on three sides by moat-style infinity-edge pools with massive decks for entertaining. The mansion was purchased in 1987 by Edmond Safra, Lily Safra’s spouse.
